The Brahmins have been integral part of Tamil Society from the Sangam Age, the earliest period in the recorded history of Tamizhnadu. The Sangam society had Brahmins, as exclusive worshippers of Siva and Vishnu, as vouched by Sangam literature and the devotees of Vishnu are mentioned only as ‘Adiyars’. The terms ‘Sri Vaishnavism’ came to denote the pholosophy of Sri Ramanuja and the Brahmin followers came to be called ‘Sri Vaishanava Brahmins’. This book provides insight on their contribution to Tamizh society.
